In early November, I attended the Government House Open Day in Hobart. I was blown away by the beauty of the grounds which included a variety of formal and informal gardens, an extensive vegetable patch, a cut flower garden and vineyard. Plantings were a range of native and introduced species, with so many in vibrant flower on the spring day. The afternoon was spent meandering around the grounds, picnicking on the lawns, and listening to the sounds of the brass bands that were providing entertainment. I found the gardens equally as impressive as the Botanical Gardens, and only wish they were open to the public more regularly.
